The number one fear that keeps people from trying to make their own cloth dolls is the face. People often feel that the face is just too hard to draw, so they avoid it entirely. However, I feel that drawing the face is not nearly as hard as some people think. There are many different styles for face drawing and many different methods. Here are a few links to some free tutorials just to get you started:
Ellen Lumpkin Brown shares this very accessible tutorial on creating doll faces.
Kat Lees who does beautiful painted faces shares some tips on drawing the eye here.
Here is another eye-drawing tutorial from artist Carmen Keys.
Japanese doll artist Runo shares drawing and painting a girl doll's face here.
Noni Cely shares how she paints a doll's face in this video:

I'm really excited to be teaching a course focussed on drawing doll faces at the National Needlework Archive near Newbury in Berkshire. The course is only a half day, costs only £15 and includes coffee and cake!
Learn more about the course or sign up by visiting the website of the National Needlework Archive here. Or call to sign up on: 01635 38740
Of course, if you still can't picture yourself drawing faces, you could always come over all Amish and go with no face at all.
