When Judi Ward came to teach here in the UK, she said that I was an engineer. She thinks that doll makers fall into one of two categories - engineer or embellisher. She was so right about me, I love shapes and putting things together. If I'm stressed I actually draft patterns in my mind to relax. I have moments of euphoria when my seam lines match exactly (especially on the top of a bald doll's skull). Sad but true.
Don't get me wrong, I love beading my dolls and playing with Tyvek and free motion machine embroidery, but if the doll's shape doesn't get me excited, nothing will.
Even if you don't make dolls, but other crafts, what are you?

I love the fabric you used on this doll

I am really good at sewing a body design from a designer (like you) and dressing the doll the way I imagine it!I have and idea about a doll and I will look for a body pattern that will suit my vision of that doll. The problem is , the purist will say that my work is not original, and it is partly true. I like dressing , accessorizing(??) , embellishing .A body is a body and I often take a torso from here and head from there... By the way, I like your new look. Soul Whisperer is still waiting, and Water Lily is keeping the ''pose''. Tourlou! Louise

Desperately want to learn the skills to "engineer" my own patterns, but in terms of using other peoples', it's the construction that I love. Although I do seem to spend ages rooting through tins of broken jewellery and beads and buttons, for bits to add to my dolls. So I think I'm probably a mix of both.
Meant to say 'Hi' btw. Have only recently found your blog. There don't seem to be any local dollmaking clubs near me, so t'internet is the only way I can make contact. :o)
